Matterhorn Bobsled Donated to Roller Coaster Museum
From Kevin Rafferty of the Disney Parks Blog:
This past summer, the world’s first tubular steel roller coaster – the Matterhorn Bobsleds at Disneyland park – received an extensive refurbishment that included a fantastic new paint job and all-new bobsleds. Now considered a piece of roller coaster history, a former bobsled from the iconic attraction recently was donated by the Disneyland Resort to the National Roller Coaster Museum and Archives, along with signage from California Screamin’.
Disneyland Resort President George A. Kalogridis said, “We’re delighted to provide these pieces of Disneyland Resort history to the National Roller Coaster Museum, an organization that celebrates our industry. The Matterhorn bobsled and California Screamin’ signage represent two of our most beloved attractions, from the first tubular steel-tracked roller coaster in the world to one of the longest and most thrilling.”

In-Depth Look: The Matterhorn Bobsleds
The Matterhorn Bobsleds for the past 6 months underwent an extensive refurbishment to replace much of the aging rock work and ride track. Along with the refurbishment came the long rumored new ride vehicles. The new 3 seat sleds change the ride quite more than you would think. If you would like to hear our review of the new bobsleds, you can listen to this weeks DLNT Podcast where we talk in-depth about the new Matterhorn Bobsleds. Big thanks to Tim Alcoser for the photos.
A look at the new bobsleds
Everything looking fresh around the mountain
3 seats per car, no lap sitting
Now a photo ride through the mountain
I haven’t seen this waterfall work in years, good to see it flowing again.
Glad the logo was kept on the bobsleds
And now a video from the very first day it soft-opened, enjoy.
Video: The Mighty Matterhorn Bobsleds Roar Again In Disneyland
Yesterday, the Matterhorn soft-opened for a few hours before the grand opening today. We were one of the first in line to ride and took video of the updated ride.

Mountain Climbers Return To The Matterhorn!
From Shawn Slater on the Disney Parks Blog:
Matterhorn Bobsleds has always been my favorite attraction at Disneyland park. Nothing beats the giddy thrill of hurtling through caverns of ice, encountering the Abominable Snowman and splashing down in an Alpine stream.
One of my earliest memories in the park is of walking down Matterhorn Way and stopping in my tracks when I realized there were people actually climbing the famous Swiss peak. Having real mountain climbers on the mountain is a tradition started by Walt Disney in 1959 when the attraction opened. Over the years, climbers going by the names Hans, Otto and Fritz took on the challenge of reaching the summit. I’m excited to tell you that this summer, brave mountaineers will once again scale the icy slopes of the mighty Matterhorn. Look for them starting June 15 when the Matterhorn Bobsleds attraction reopens. Seeing them is one of those only-in-Disneyland experiences that will make you yodel with joy!
